&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;작업은 사람들의 삶 속에서 잊히기 쉽고, 사소하기때문에 쉬이 발견하기 어려운 대상들을 관찰하고 발견하는 것으로부터 시작된다. 이러한 대상은 단순히 눈에 보이는 사물이나 딱딱한 기타 명사는 아니다.  환경에 따라 대상에 대한 인식과 관점 혹은 목적의 차이에 의해 가변하는 모든 것이 대상에 속한다.&#38;nbsp; 나는 어떠한 대상을 두고 그 존재의 움직임과 변화 등 자체에서 뿜어져 나오는 어떠한 ‘운동’을 인지하고, 그것을 풀어나간다.

&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;일상 속에 분명히 존재하지만, 그 대상의 흐름과 의미에 대한 낮은 인지도의 근원은 주변 환경에 쉽게 적응하게 되는 우리들의 ‘경향’ 때문이다. 익숙한 환경이지만 관객에게 대상에 대한 새로운 시선/질문을 던지기 위해서는 이 둘 사이에서의 변화가 일어나는 작용점이 필요하다. 대상과 관객 사이에서 활발한 상호작용이 일어나는 순간/상황으로 관객을 끌어들일 수 있는 ‘잘 짜인 장치’를 고안하는 것이 작업의 형태를 완성시킨다. 작품의 외형은 ‘도구’이자 ‘장치’일 뿐이다.

  &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; 즉각적으로 인지되지 않음으로 인해 관객들은 작업에 조금 더 주의를 기울여야 하지만, 이 작용 안에서 관객들은 어느 순간 각 개인의 경험과 느낌을 바탕으로 그들만의 감정과 감각들을 환기함으로써 작업적 의미가 발생한다.
&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; 현재 이를 효과적으로 보여줄 수 있는 작업적 형태를 다양한 접근 방법으로 실험 및 진행해오고 있다.

Artist Statement

&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;Work begins by observing and discovering things that are difficult to discern because it is easy to forget and trivial in people’s lives. These objects are not simply objects that are visible or other nouns that are easy to define. Everything that varies according to the difference in perception and purpose of the subject of the work depending on the environment, belongs to the object. I perceive “movement” of an object that comes out of itself such as motion and change of its existence, and resolve upon it. &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;A certain flow(action/force) of an entity, surely in existence but hardly discernible, is rarely recognized because of the human tendency to easily adapt and familiarize with the surrounding environment.
&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;In order to present new perspectives and questions to the audience within a familiar environment, there needs to be a maximum point of the interactive energy between the audience and the object, so a point of action where transformation takes place. Designing a ‘well- constructed device’ that can attract audiences at the moment / situation where vigorous interaction takes place between the audience and object completes the form of the work. The outward form of the work is only ‘tool’ and ‘device’.
&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;Such device requires the audience to actively interact with the work, through which arises meaning. Because this process is not immediately recognizable, it demands the audience to dedicate more time and effort in staying focused. However, after a certain moment, the audience will be able to refresh his/her own emotion/senses/thoughts based on experiencing and reacting to such transformative action. At the same time, I am experimenting and proceeding different ways to present such experience effectively through installations.

&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;우리는 우리의 ‘실재’를 체중계의 숫자를 통해 가늠한 적은 있어도, ‘존재적 가치’로써의 ‘나’를 직접적으로 체감해
본 경험은 없다. 


&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;이 설치작업의 능동적 참여를 통해 관객은 자신의 물리적 몸무게를 직접 경험할 수 있게 된다. 설치 작업의 천장에
달린 두 개의 도르레를 축으로 앞 뒤의 무게는 똑같게 설계되어 있다. 즉, 저울과 같은 '0'의 상태로 구조되어 있다.


&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;관객은 널판 위에 서서 막대기를 아래로 당기는 동시에, 자신을 스스로 위로 들어 올릴 수 있게 된다.
일련의 이 행위는 두 손의 촉감으로 자신의 중량을 명확하게 인지하도록 한다. 동시에
자신의 무게이자 중력의 이겨냄을 느낄 수 있게 한다. 일정 높이와 몸의 특정 위치에서부터는,
설치된 양동이 물 안에 얼굴의 윤곽과 자신의 물리적 노력이 반사되어 보인다. 그러한
개인의 무게는 더 이상 하나의 추상적 숫자가 아닌, 능동적인 실험을 통해 물질적 존재로서 이해된다.

&#38;nbsp; 


&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;While we have experience weighing our ‘existence’ by
measuring the numbers on a scale, we have never experienced sensing ‘myself’ as
an ‘existential value.’ 


&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;This installation work enables the audience to actively
participate and experience one’s own physical weight. Two same weights are hung
on each side of the two pulleys attached to the ceiling. In other words, the
installation work is structured as a scale in the state of ‘0.’


&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;While standing on a wooden plank, the audience can lift
oneself up by pulling the stick down. This series of action enables the
audience to clearly perceive one’s weight through the tactile sensation on two
hands. At the same time, it allows the audience to overcome one’s own weight
and the gravity. At a certain height and a specific position of the body, the
audience will be able to see the contour of one’s own face as well as the
physical effort, reflected in the installed water bucket. The weight of an
individual no longer exists as an abstract number; through this active
experiment, one is recognized as a physical entity.

&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;서로 연결된 4개 혹은 12개의 의자에서 그 간격은 그들의 포지션/이동에 따라 60cm와 120cm 사이에서 변화될 수 있다. 각자의 시험을 통해 낯선 이 또는 아는 이에게 다가가거나 멀어지게 되는 것을 경험할 수 있다.

&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;이 작업은 ‘컴포트존(Comfort zone) - 스스로 편안하고 익숙하다고 느끼는 영역 혹은 활동 범위’ 현상에 대한 관심에서 출발한다. 각자의 범위 안에서 인간은 주변

환경으로부터 그들의 고유한 공간을 필요로 하고, 이를 유지했을 때 편안함과 안정감을 느낀다. 하지만 공간의 제한이 시작되는 순간 그들에겐 

긴장,


불편함, 불안감, 두려움이 자연스럽게 일어나며 이 범위는 끝이 난다.


&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;안정감이 더는 존재하지 않는 곳과 그리고 불편함의 극복이 시작 되는 곳의 ‘경계’ 는 사람마다 서로 차이가 있다. 다시 말해 인간은 각자 개인의 ‘컴포트존’을 가지고 있고, 이는 대상 간의 관계, 혹은 장소에 따라 수시로 변한다. 허나 연구 결과에 따르면 우리는 낯선 사람 사이에서의 요구된 공간은 대략적으로 90에서120cm 사이, 반면 친한 사람과의 ‘컴포트존’은 대략 60cm 이거나 더 적다고 한다. 가령, 한정된 공간인 엘리베이터 안에서는 사람들이 자동으로 다른 이와 거리를 두게 되는 데, 그들은 그것의 즉각적인 가까움으로 인해 불편함과 긴장감을 느끼기 때문이다. 하지만 친구 사이에서는 손을 잡거나, 어깨 동무, 포옹까지 우리의 사적 공간을 아무 거리낌없이 제공한다.&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;관객은 이 두 타입의 설치작업들을 통하여 그들만의 시시각각 변하는 개인적 ‘컴포트존’을 발견하고 자각하게 되며, 전시 공간 안에서 이러한 ‘인간 간의 상호작용’을 실제로 체험하게 된다.

I, II&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;/ KOR&#38;nbsp;&#38;nbsp;


&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;This work consists of 4 chairs or 12 chairs connected to each
other. The gap between the chairs can shift from 60cm to 120cm depending on
their position or movement. Each trial can lead to experiences of nearing or
distancing a stranger or those more familiar. 


&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;This work departs from my interest in the idea of a ‘comfort zone—a zone or a sphere of activity where one feels comfortable and
familiar.’&#38;nbsp; Within each one’s boundary,
humans need a space of their own in their surrounding environment. Such space
provides a sense of comfort and stability. However, as soon as these spaces are
restricted, humans feel tense, uncomfortable, anxious, and afraid and
consequently, the boundary breaks down.&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;The ‘border’ between a space where one no longer feels
comfortable, and a space where one starts to overcome such discomfort may be
different depending on the person. In other words, everyone has one’s own
‘comfort zone,’ and such zone changes constantly depending on the relationship
with the object or the location. According to research, the distance we require
between ourselves and a stranger is approximately 90cm to 120cm. Between close
acquaintances, the ‘the comfort zone’ is reduced to 60cm or less. For instance,
in a limited space such as the elevator, humans automatically distance
themselves from the other, because the sudden proximity arouses discomfort and
tension. However, between friends, we are not afraid of sharing our private
space by holding hands or hugging each other. 


&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;Through two types of installations, the audience can discover
and recognize their individual ‘comfort zone,’ that shifts every moment. The
audience will physically experience the ‘interaction between humans.’

&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;두 타입의 행거가 있다. 하나는 서로 연결된 행거들이고 다른 하나는 실리콘으로 된 행거이다. 'Hang on!'
은 옷걸이 위에 옷을 거는 행동 - 즉, 편습되었기에 자각하지 못했던 일상 행위들을 의식적으로 경험하는 것에 초점 두어진다. 원래 가지고 있던
물성을 바꾸거나 재구성함으로써, 이들은 그 전보다 더 쉽게 구부러지거나 움직이게 된다.&#38;nbsp;

 이 두 작업의 아이디어는 일시적으로 머물렀던 오스트리아 생활 안에서 그들이
어느 공간에 들어왔을 때 그들의 모든 옷과 짐을 행거에 걸어두는 생활 습관의 발견에서 비롯되었다. 필자는 그들을 더 자주 마주하고 자극 시킬 수
있도록 그들의 일상품을 바꾸어 보고자 하였다. 전시장 입구뿐만 아니라 교내 및 공공시설 곳곳에 설치하려던
목적성을 띈 작업들이다.

&#38;nbsp; 각각의 다른 형태의 행거들을 연결해 서로의 움직임에 대한 영향을 주고받을 수 있도록 제작한다. 운동성을
가지고 있는 이러한 타입의 행거에 옷을 거는 상황에 있어서, 관객들은 행동의 목적보다는 행동 자체와 그 움직임의 변화에 초점을 더 기울이게 된다.

&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;'일상품인 행거’를 부드럽고 굽어지는 실리콘 소재로 재-가공함으로써, ‘본래의’ 그리고 ‘무언가 받칠
수 있는 견고함’을 잃어버리게 한다. 단단히 연결된 옷걸이들과는 달리, 이 작업에서 사용된 소재는 그것의 본 기능을 감소시킨다. 변형된 행거에 의해 관객은
그들의 옷을 걸어보려고 시도할 때, 보다 주의 깊게 행동하게 된다.

&#38;nbsp;&#38;nbsp; There are two types of hangers. One is a series of connected
hangers and the other is a hanger made out of silicon. ‘Hang on!’ focuses on
consciously experiencing daily actions, such as hanging our clothes on a
hanger, actions that we are habituated to and therefore slip beyond our
attention. The work changes or reconstructs the physicality of the object,
making them easier to bend or move. 


&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;In the first work, hangers of different shape are connected
together, so that each of their movement can influence the other. When hanging
clothes on such type of a mobile hanger, the audience becomes more focused on
the act of hanging and the change of movement it triggers, rather than the
original purpose of this action. 
&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;The second work consists of a hanger—a daily life
object—recreated with flexible and bendable silicon. The hanger loses it’s
‘original’ property and the ‘firmness required to support an object.’ In
contrast to the firmly connected hangers, the material used in this work
reduces the original functionality of the hanger. Hence, the audience needs to
pay more attention when attempting to hang their clothes. 


&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;The idea of these two works came from my temporary stay in
Austria, after witnessing the daily habit of Austrians hanging all of their
clothes and belongings on a hanger after entering a space. In order to
stimulate the people and make them encounter this habit more often, I
transformed this daily object. These works are to be placed not only at the
entrance of an exhibition space but also in schools and public spaces.

Ceramic Project

/ EN&#38;nbsp;&#38;nbsp;
&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; 연소과정에서 흙은 높은 온도에서 도자로 변형된다. 이전의 부드럽고 가형적인
흙은, 이러한 과정을 통해 다른 물질적 특성으로 도달하게 된다. 다른 물질과 다르게 그것은 소성 후 단단하며 지속적인 형태를 가지게 되지만, 동시에
외부의 영향으로부터 쉽게 깨질 수 있는 것이 된다. ‘단단하지만 쉽게 깨질수 있다’ 란 속성은 도자의 흥미로운 속성이다. 이 같은 도자의 아이러니한
속성에 나는 ‘너무 단단해졌기 때문에 오히려 쉽게 깨질 수 있는 것이 아닌가?’라는 질문을 던지게 되면서 도자를 나의 작업적 재료로써 흥미를 가지게
된다.


&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; 나는 우리가 아무렇지 않게 쓰는 생활용품에서 제일 중요한 역할을 하거나, 가장
힘을 많이 받거나, 궂은일을 많이 하는 부분들을 도자로 바꾸어 본다. 사물의 일부분을 도자로 바꾸었을 때 생겨난 ‘다름’ 혹은 ‘차이’ 의 느낌을
느껴보고자 한다. 그 다름으로 인하여, 우리의 무뎌진 감각과 시선을 환기시켜 주고자 한다.
