This solid, yet fragile ceramic wedge is a daily object that keeps the door open and holds it. It is installed in an exhibition space or in ordinary spaces. Through the sensitive reactions created by this object, the work makes the original function and the hidden forces of the object visible and audible and thereby enables the audience to rethink about it.
A wedge is a tool that fills up a gap and props up against its forces. It makes use of the force that acts towards its end. A wedge is easily used in our everyday life, to keep a door open, to lift a heavy object or to hold it up, or to open up a gap. It is commonly found in Austria and Europe. By creating a ceramic wedge, the work deals with the difference and re-cognition arising from the change in material. The force is canceled out as soon as the wedge breaks. Through sound, one can aurally sense the wedge breaking.
